Discover Jakarta in a Nutshell: Where Tradition Meets Modern Buzz

Hello, fellow globetrotters! So, you find yourself with just one day to soak in the eclectic vibes of Jakarta, Indonesia?

Jakarta, the heart of Indonesia

Is a vibrant city blending tradition and modernity. Picture this: the iconic National Monument, Monas, standing tall against the city skyline, offering breathtaking views that scream “Instagram moment.” Dive into the historical charm of Old Town Jakarta – cobblestone streets, colonial buildings, and tales echoing through Fatahillah Square.

Our 6 days adventure in Indonesia starts in Jakarta where we will be staying for 2 days before heading to Bandung, Indonesia.

Here’s the ultimate guide to help you navigate the bustling streets, explore historical gems, and indulge in the culinary wonders this city has to offer.

Day 1: Bank of Indonesia Museum

Bank of Indonesia

Kickstart your day at the Bank of Indonesia Museum. Once inside, the whole story of Jakarta’s money game played out right in front of me. Here you can find life-sized figures about the history of Indonesia and its thriving country.

If you’re curious about how banking goes down in Indonesia, the Bank Indonesia Museum is your spot. Tucked away in Old Town, this museum with a colonial vibe showcases currencies from way back – like, we’re talking as early as the 14th century, way before the colonial crowd showed up. And the coolest part? They’ve got legit gold bars on display.

Entrance Fee: IDR 5,000 / PHP 18.00

Schedule: Tuesday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Saturday, Sunday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Musuem Nasional Indonesia

museum nasional indonesia

From Bank Indonesia, we book a Gojek Car (this is the counterpart of Uber and Grab in Indonesia) heading to Musuem Nasional Indonesia located just across the Jakarta Old Town.

Here you can find ancient artifacts, mind-blowing art, and enough culture to make your head spin – this place is a cultural jackpot.

From pre-colonial wonders to the cultural kaleidoscope of today, the museum paints a vivid picture of the nation’s evolution.

If you’re not a history buff (which I doubt after this visit), the sheer beauty of the museum’s architecture is worth the trip. The grandeur of the building is like a work of art in itself.

It’s a cultural fiesta in there! Totally worth it for the history that you will learn about Indonesia.

Entrance fee: IDR 10,000

Open every day from 8 AM to 4 PM.

Lunch at Cafe Batavia

Jakarta Old Town

You should never miss visiting the old town in Jakarta and make sure to experience the culinary history and savor their famous Indonesian dishes at Cafe Batavia.

cafe batavia cafe batavia food dimsum

mie goreng

This is my 2nd time here in Cafe Batavia and the experience is still the same, the food is exquisite, and just a heads-up price here is on the expensive side.

We ordered:

Mie Goreng

Dim sum Platter

Sauteed Broccoli

2 cocktail drinks

Our total amount is roughly PHP 2,300 / IDR 650,000

It’s my 3rd time here in Jakarta and 2nd time visiting the old town and this is still one of my favorite destinations and will always visit whenever I have time in Jakarta. And since we only have a full day in Jakarta, this is the only tourist destination we visited.

This is a journey you wouldn’t miss, so grab your curiosity and let’s explore Jakarta!
