It’s been 1 and a half months since the day that the community quarantine in the Philippines announced. Where thousands of Filipino workers lost their job as most of the company needed to close until the president lift the Enhanced COmmunity Quarantine in the Philippines which by the way it all started to announced in Metro Manila then Calabarzon, then the entire Luzon island.
Many of us learned to cook different types of meal even if you are not a cook nor a baker but you learn a skill or two because you are staying at home 24/7. Not an easy life to many Filipino households but we all need to come up with meals and snacks that our whole family can enjoy, guaranteed delicious, healthy, and safe (food prep).
Pizza for beginners
My kid and I are a fan of pasta, pizza, and bread. I have been baking cupcakes, cookies, and other pastries for my online bakeshop and this gives me an idea to serve freshly made pizza dough for my kid. I guarantee it’s easy to prepare and any pizza lover will surely enjoy this recipe.
Pizza dough ingredients:
2 to 2 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
1/2 warm water
1 tsp yeast
1/2 tsp granulated sugar
1/2 milk ( you can substitute for warm water if you are in a budget)
pinch of salt
dried basil (optional)
1/8 cup olive oil or vegetable oil
mixing bowls
spatula
mixer (if you have)
Pizza toppings:
spaghetti sauce (Italian or sweet style)
ham or bacon or tuna or even hotdog
cheese (cheddar, quick melt or any kinds of cheese you have in your pantry will do) I suggest using 2 kinds of cheese for that extra taste
fresh or dried basil
fresh tomato
canned mushroom (optional)
bell pepper (optional)
white or red onion (optional)
How to:
In a bowl, add the sugar and yeast in your warm water. Cover it and wait for 5-10 minutes until it bubbles up. Then add slowly your dry ingredients, flour, salt, dried basil. Then add your extra warm milk or water and to your mixture. Mix until you make a dough. Knead for 10-minutes (manually) or in your mixer at 5-10minutes until it smoothens. Once your dough is a bit stretchy, form a ball and add a little oil then cover your bowl and roof the dough for 1 hour or until it doubles the size.
After an hour knead again your dough and cut into 3-4 small balls for making pizza dough. Dust your tabletop with flour and knead your dough. It doesn’t matter if its not a perfect round shape since this rustic pizza is for home servings.
Rest the dough for another 35 mins in your cookie pan or whatever baking dish you have at home where your dough can fit in, then you can now add all your pizza toppings. Start with the sauce then cheese and add all other toppings you want. While making the toppings, preheat your love to 220 C.
Bake the pizza at 220 C for 10 minutes and another 2-3 minutes at 250 C to give that crunch on your pizza.
Serve while hot. Enjoy!
